RMS QUEEN MARY/ART DECO: one of the most iconic pieces of art related to the Queen Mary we have ever had the privilege of offering for auction, a Holy Grail for collectors of the Queen Mary. Maurice Lambert for the RMS Queen Mary executed by Sterling Foundries of the Birmingham Qualcast Group Mural 'Speed and Progress'. Maurice Lambert designed a series of relief groups for the RMS Queen Mary which was launched in 1934. The present example was installed in the travel bureau onboard the main deck. Originally one of a pair, both symbolised 'Speed and Progress'. The port side panel, which depicted the express train Silver Jubilee behind a galloping centaur, is now lost to time. This unique panel depicts a stylised DH86 Imperial Airways aircraft with Pegasus alongside. Literature D. M.
